M.R. James Ghost Stories: A Warning to the Curious
Experience an evening performance of M.R. James’ ghost story ‘A Warning to the Curious’ at Hanbury Hall with performer Toby Burchell this Halloween.
'Yet, in all this quiet, there was an acute, an acrid consciousness of a restrained hostility, very near to us'
'A Warning to the Curious' follows the story of Paxton, a young archaeologist who inadvertently comes upon one of the three holy crowns of East Anglia. What he uncovers leads to something far more sinister...
Join us in the Great Hall at Hanbury and watch this candlelit performance against the backdrop of James Thornhill’s wall paintings. The performance will begin at 7pm and will be followed by a hot drink of your choice, and a slice a cake or bake* in the Courtyard Kitchen restaurant.
In this one man show, Toby Burchell performs this chilling tale by the finest writer of the ghost story genre, M.R. James. Originally narrated by James himself as an entertainment for friends, these are the perfect traditional ghost stories.
Seating is allocated on arrival and will be first come, first serve.
*Subject to availability
Please note:
- On arrival please enter via visitor reception, and then make your way up to the Hall. The performance will take place in the Great Hall.
