Spend an evening with Border Readers for some intimate live readings.

Staged in the atmospheric wood panelled drawing room at Acorn Bank, Land Lines is an immersive listening delight for anyone aged 11 – 100. The Border Readers will be telling dynamic short stories that have lots to say about life in our modern day countryside.        

In Tim Pear’s Blue there’s life after death as Joseph sees family and farm afresh. In Deborah Moggach's How I Learnt to be a Real Countrywoman, London incomer Ruthie's conservation campaign lights up her life and libido. In the Author's Footsteps by Adam Thorpe a determined rambler with an outdated guidebook brings mayhem to Milton Keynes. Artist Florence takes measures to secure home and family from possible intruders in Protection by Helen Dunmore. In Jo Scott’s Leap of Faith sparks fly on the high moors when boy meets girl on midsummer’s eve.

The Border Readers are an association of northern based professional actors touring village halls, libraries, pubs, galleries, art centres and other community venues captivating audiences with intimate readings of quality fiction.


Please note:

  • Please meet in the Drawing Room.
  • This event is fully accessible – paths are level and surfaced with fine gravel. House access is step-free and has wide doorways to reach the Drawing Room. The route from the car park will be lit.
  • Children 11 and over are welcome.
