Author talk: Charlotte Furness
Meet historical author Charlotte Furness, learn more about her research methods for her latest books.
Charlotte has written two books about women’s history in connection to the English Country House, this talk will explore the role of women in this setting as well as introducing the audience to some of the women featured in her books.
Her book Lady of the House (2018) explores the role and experience of married women within country houses and Unmarried Women of the Country Estate (2020) explores the lives of elite women who decided not to marry.
Both books feature the stories of real women such as Harriet Leveson Gower (daughter of the infamous 5th Duchess of Devonshire), Elizabeth Manners, the 5th Duchess of Rutland from Belvoir Castle, Anne Lister, and more.
