Off the Beaten Track

Join us on an eight-mile walk that takes you off the usual visitor route.

Join one of our rangers on a longer walk and explore areas of the landscape that are off the beaten track and not usually accessible to visitors. The walk will cover grass and marshland as well as shingle tracks.

Please note:

  • Meet at the National Trust Office on Orford Quay at 9.45 for a 10am ferry crossing.
  • The site is an exposed coastal location. Dress for the weather/wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • There are no catering facilities, please bring your own refreshments.
  • Access to Orford Ness is via ferry, boarding of which will require negotiating steps, the number of which will depend on the tide. The steps can be slippery. 
  • Not suitable for children.
  • Please note there are no toilets on this route which can be uneven, some of which is on shingle.
  • There is no cafe on site please bring snacks and water.
  • Ticket includes ferry crossing and walk.
