Ranger Ramble - Bike Tour with the Head Ranger at Castle Ward!
Kick-start your day with an early morning adventure on two wheels, as we take on the Castle Ward Boundary Trail for a ranger-led cycle on Saturday 30 August.
This 13km loop is designed for experienced mountain bikers looking for a challenging ride through a mix of woodland, parkland, farmland and Strangford Lough shoreline. Following an anti-clockwise route, the tour hugs the edge of the Demesne while also delving into previously unseen internal areas. Expect a mix of terrain with steep climbs, narrow tracks, and fast downhill sections—this is not a family ride but a rewarding blast for confident, regular riders with a good level of fitness. Meeting at the shore car park, the ride will last approximately 2.5 hours. Helmets are mandatory and wet weather cycling gear is strongly recommended, even in dry weather.
Led by a trained ranger, the tour will also highlight the importance of trail etiquette on multi-use paths, where cyclists share space with walkers and horse riders. By heading out early, we aim to enjoy the trails at their quietest and make the most of the open space, crisp morning air, and the thrill of riding through one of the estate’s most scenic and lesser-known routes. Toilet facilities are available at the farmyard.
Please note:
- Please meet at Shore Carpark.
- Dress for a 13km cycle and consider the weather.
- Must be able to cycle 13 kilometres/2.5 hours.
- Suitable for children capable of the cycle.
