Join us for an autumn photography workshop led by expert photographer, Roger Bloxham.

With the humble mushroom and vibrant autumn colours as your focus, join us on this half day photography workshop at Emmetts Garden to learn all about your camera and how to take stunning photos as you go.

The course uses the natural environment Emmetts Garden and is designed for people who have a camera with a short range zoom lens (24-70mm is ideal.) The course will focus on the fungi, as the main subject. Mushrooms don't blow around in the wind, so there is time to find the right composition and lighting for the perfect shot.

The course will run from 9am-1pm, with a hot drink and cake included in the price. The price also includes your garden entry. Suitable for all abilities.

If you enrol on the course, you will receive further information to help you to get the most out of the day.

Please note:

  • Please head to the Visitor Centre where someone will meet you.
  • Please dress for outdoors in autumn. Please bring your own camera and you may also wish to bring something to kneel on. A full list of suggested items to bring will be provided in your email confirmation when you book.
  • Accessible toilet available by the Visitor Centre and the Tea Rooms.

Join Dr. David Luke as he explains the chemistry, neuroscience and psychology of Magic Mushrooms.

We are currently undergoing a psychedelic renaissance and Magic Mushrooms are one of the key areas of research for scientists around the world. Recent studies have shown that psilocybin, the active ingredient in the plant, can heal depression, enhance connectivity in the brain and even result in an increase in participants’ gardening!

Dr David Luke is Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Greenwich. His research focuses on transpersonal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially via psychedelics, having published more than 100 academic papers in this area, including ten books, most recently Otherworlds: Psychedelics and Exceptional Human Experience. When he is not running clinical drug trials with LSD, conducting DMT field experiments or observing apparent weather control with Mexican shamans he directs the Ecology, Cosmos and Consciousness salon and is a cofounder and director of Breaking Convention: International Conference on Psychedelic Consciousness.

Please note:

  • Please head to the Visitor Centre on arrival.
  • Please dress for the autumn weather. Takes place outside, within a marquee.

Ever wondered what happens if you accidentally eat a poisonous mushroom? In this talk with Iona, you can learn about the main groups of toxins in mushrooms, how they affect a person’s body, and which mushrooms you might find them in.

During this talk, you will do a little work on how to ID some of the most toxic groups of mushrooms, and finish with a little myth busting – and a bit of time for a Q & A, for all your burning questions!

Iona Fraser is a Field Mycologist with over a decade’s experience teaching and having spent 16 years down the fungi “rabbit hole” so far. She is also one third of Petrichor – a team of 3 Mushketeers devoted to using nature engagement to help people struggling with their mental health. Her passion for the world of mycology includes field identification, microscopy, and dabbling in fungi DNA. She also has a special interest in mushroom toxicity, which she developed over the course of several years whilst volunteering as a trusted identifier for ‘Poisons Help’ – an international emergency identification service used by healthcare providers and vets around the world. This is a role that she continues to this day. Happiest up to her knees in a bog, or laying full body in the mossy litter – her goal is to share this passion for All Things Fungi with as many people as she possibly can!
