Coastguards, Smuggling and Shipwrecks

"Brandy for the parson, baccy for the clerk”. Join us for this guided walk on the Seven Sisters and hear about tales of smuggling at Crowlink and the history of the Coastguard station. PLEASE NOTE - this walk is now SOLD OUT.

A guided walk, starting at Birling Gap, over three of the Seven Sisters to the site of the old Crowlink Coastguard cottages. On the route, learn more about the history of the site, smuggling and some of the notable shipwrecks in the area. We then go inland talking about the history of Gayle's Place and the Red Barn. Finally, we head back to Birling Gap.

Please note:

  • Meet outside the Birling Gap Cafe where our friendly guides will greet you. Please have your booking confirmation ready to show.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the session.
  • The weather can be extreme on the Seven Sisters so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
  • Ensure you bring water and sunscreen.
  • Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead.
  • There is uneven and hilly terrain throughout the walk.
  • Suitable for children aged 12+ accompanied by an adult.
  • The walk lasts approximately 2.5 hours over hilly country, suitable for the moderately fit. There are grazing animals along the walk.
  • The walk starts at Birling Gap. Consider car sharing. The coastal bus 13X runs on a Sunday with stops directly outside Birling Gap.
