Patterson's Spade Mill Interactive Tour
Experience 250 years of spade making history at the last water powered spade mill, still in daily operation, in the UK. Engage your senses as you feel the heat of the forge, see the flames and hear the ring of hammers on steel.
On this 60 minute immersive experience, get transported back in time. Tour the mill and try out the ancient craft of blacksmithing for yourself.
You will learn some of the history of this important piece of industrial heritage.

Feel the satisfaction of taking home a piece of work forged by your own hands.
Please note:
- Meet at the Patterson's Spade Mill welcome area.
- Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear leather shoes or boots and clothing you don't mind getting dirty (blacksmithing can be messy work). Blacksmithing is also thirsty work, bring water!
- Fully accessible. Wheelchairs available upon request.
- Age guidance 14+. Must be supervised by an adult.
- £20 per person (Member or non-Member).
- Tour is scheduled for 60 minutes but may run longer. We want everyone to take home their piece of work, which may need a little more time.
