Christmas at Claydon House

Visit Claydon this Christmas and join a tour to celebrate Christmas in the Victorian style! Discover why we sing carols, eat turkey, put up decorations and send cards, and see a Christmas party through the eyes of Claydon's servants.

Join us on a tour of the rooms to hear how members of the Verney family and their servants celebrated Christmas across three centuries. With shutters tightly closed the House, illuminated by dozens of flickering candles, recreates the spirit of Christmases past. Our decorations range from simple 17th century to handmade Victorian ornaments to 1950s nostalgia.

Visit notable figures throughout our history, from the pirate Sir Francis to Parthenope, sister of Florence Nightingale, as well as the servants that looked after the house and its residents. Our second hand bookshop will be open for browsing, as well as the Claydon courtyard for a warm drink and bite to eat.

Please note:

  • Standard admissions charges apply to non-members on arrival.
  • Please meet at Visitor Reception.
  • Please bring your booking confirmation and warm clothes as the house can get cold.
  • The tour is ground-floor only and is wheelchair accessible throughout, with scattered seats and benches.
  • Children are welcomed!
