Lady Spencer's Wood Walk
Circular walk perfect for beginners and for families.
Named after the 5th Duchess of Devonshire’s mother, Lady Margaret Georgiana Spencer who designed the manicured woodland walk as a private leisure walk for the family.
We’ve kept this circular walk true to its humble beginnings by keeping it as an engaging family walk for all ages. With plenty of places to stop for playing activities, reflective moments and to enjoy a picnic, follow in the families' footsteps. Half term walks: Please note that on the 23rd & 30th of October the walk will include creative nature based writing tasks for families. All ages and abilities are welcome!
Rest & refreshments:
- Picnic benches located in the Stableyard
- Toilets located in the Stableyard
- Café located in the Stableyard
Total walk time is 1.5hrs - 2 hrs. Actual walking time is 40 minutes. Distance is 1.3 miles / 2.17 km.
Please note:
- Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour is due to start in the Visitor Reception Building in the Stableyard.
- Please wear suitable footwear & clothing for walking on rugged terrain and being out in the sun. If the weather is hot, please bring water, refreshments and sunscreen.
- No dogs allowed.
- Please note that this walk is not fully accessible and will involved walking over unmarked paths in some areas. Please see hazards:
· Road crossings
· Uneven terrain
· Narrow sections
· Wet and boggy ground
· Steps (with no handrail)
· Kissing gate
· Farm animals
· Environmental sensitivities
· Loose ground. - This walk is suitable for families with children comfortable walking.
