Edale Coffin Walk

Discover tales of local folklore and ancient history on this guided 7km circular walk of the Vale of Edale.

Starting in Edale, the route will follow the well-worn Coffin Road onto the Great Ridge and return via the sleepy hamlet of Barber Booth and the Pennine Way. Your experienced guide will lead you by lamplight and share stories of local legends, mythical creatures, and ancient traditions. The walk will end at The Old Nags Head Pub for a tipple by the hearth. 

The walk is approximately 7km and includes a steep ascent, steps, and follows an uneven footpath. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles.

Please note:

  • Please meet at the Penny Pot Café by Edale railway station.
  • Please wear suitable warm outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring a packed lunch or dinner and plenty of water.
  • Evening walkers must bring a fully charged torch. 
  • Dogs on a lead are welcome.
