Stargazing Night at Allan Bank

Join us for a night learning about the universe and stargazing in Grasmere.

Explore the wonders of the winter night sky. Our astronomy experts will take you on a whistle stop tour of the universe on the big screen. You’ll learn about stars, planets and galaxies and our place in the universe.

Then, weather permitting, we will head outside and get hands-on using telescopes and binoculars to go in search of sparkling star clusters, distant galaxies and some giant planets.

Most suitable for adults and children over 12. Those with children under 12 are recommended to join us for the family-orientated session taking place earlier in the evening (see separate event listing).

Please note if the weather is poor or cloudy the event will still go ahead. Our astronomers will instead take more time to take you on a virtual tour of the universe on the screen!

Please note:

  • Please park in the village and make your way up the driveway to Allan Bank. Members of our team will be there to meet you and direct you from here.
  • Bring a torch and binoculars if you have them. Please bring warm clothing. Please also wear suitable footwear for walking on a footpath which is well graded but slightly rough in places.
  • The venue is wheelchair accessible. The outdoor part of the evening involves a 50m walk on well graded footpath. We can accommodate those with accessibility needs if we know in advance.
  • Aimed at adults & children over 12. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Warm drinks (tea/coffee/hot chocolate) and biscuits will be available throughout the evening.
