Guided by Nature: Veteran Tree Walk

Tour Hardwick’s veteran tree collection to understand how they provide protected habitats for rare fungi, bats, lichens and so much more!

Uncover the mystery behind veteran trees on Hardwick’s Veteran Tree Walk. From trauma such as lightning strikes to missing limbs, these trees are far from being purposeless. 

Guided by our expert Ranger team, be prepared to learn all about their high ecological importance; how to define a veteran tree; and how Hardwick is creating the next generation of veteran trees. 

This enjoyable and educational walk will take approximately 2.5 - 3 hours and is 3.5 - 4 miles in distance. 

Hot drinks and snacks can be purchased at the beginning and end of the walk. For the comfort of the group, please leave your dogs at home.

Please note:

  • Standard admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
  • This guided trail will take place from the Visitor Reception Building, located in the Stableyard.
  • Please wear sturdy outdoor shoes and dress for the Great British Weather. Bring appropriate snacks and water if needed.
  • There are accessible toilets and parking located in the Stableyard, please note that this walk is along uneven terrain and is not wheelchair accessible.
