Natural Dye Workshop
Join Natural Dyer Isobel Spence in a hands-on workshop and to learn more about this sustainable craft and experiment with natural dyeing yourself.
In this hands-on workshop, Isobel will teach you how to naturally dye using plant material. You will then have the opportunity to experiment with natural dyeing with various seasonal dye baths yourself and take home your own dyed textile piece from the workshop.
This workshop will include a walk around the grounds and garden at Sissinghurst where Isobel will introduce you to plant material that could be used for dyeing whilst also explaining how to forage sustainably.
Ticket holders can also enjoy refreshments during the workshop and access to the garden and collection spaces after the event has finished.
Natural dyeing is a slow, sustainable craft that uses natural materials to yield extraordinary dyes to colour textiles. This is an ancient craft practiced for millennia.
Working with plants in this way forges a beautiful connection and appreciation for your surroundings and the seasons. Whether using bark, flowers, nuts or berries, there are few limitations to the material on offer for plant dyeing.
About the artist: Isobel Spence is a natural dyer, forager and gardener, whose work aims to inspire and reconnect people to land through the slow and simple stories of the seasons.
Please note:
- Please meet outside Visitor Reception to sign in.
- This event is partially outside. Please ensure you have checked the weather forecast before attending.
- Please note that the practical part of this workshop takes place upstairs in the Granary Restaurant.
