Make a Large Willow Bird Feeder
24 July: enjoy a short course learning about the traditional craft of willow weaving.
You'll be creating a beautiful and functional feeder to take home and hang in your garden. You'll be guided through the processes of creating a cone shape, weaving in a pattern and turning.
No experience is required. This workshop is great for beginners who would like a taste of what basket weaving is like.
Your tutor for this course is Suzy Williams of The Coppice Co. In 2018 Suzy won a place on the National Coppicing Apprenticeship Scheme, during which she learned vital skills and knowledge from seasoned coppice workers. Now she manages coppice woodlands alongside teaching and selling traditional woodland crafts.
Our class sizes are small, so you'll have a chance to engage with the tutor while you work.
Tuesday 24 July (Saturday 15 November sold out), 10am-12noon. Tea/coffee is provided.
Please note:
- The Heritage and Rural Skills Centre is located in Coleshill village. Follow signs for the Coleshill Estate Office for the car park and look out for signs directing you to the location of the course.
- All tools and materials included. Wear practical clothes suitable for crafting. Please bring your own refreshments (or the means to purchase these from the on-site café).
- Toilets on site, including accessible toilet. Level access into the teaching space. Some uneven surfaces such as cobbles due to the historic nature of the building. Please contact us if you require an accessible parking space or if you would like to have an informal chat about access before you book.
- Suitable for ages 8+. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
- Mess room available for course participants to use during breaks. Drinking water and facilities for making tea and coffee available. Refreshments/lunches available to purchase from on-site café.
