Make a Round Willow Shopper Basket

14 June: this course will teach you all the fundamental stages of making a traditional basket.

You'll make the base, add the uprights and then weave the sides before adding a handle. A basket like this can last decades and carry heavy loads.

No experience is required. This course is perfect for people really wanting to learn how to craft baskets.

Your tutor for this course is Suzy Williams of The Coppice Co. In 2018 Suzy won a place on the National Coppicing Apprenticeship Scheme, during which she learned vital skills and knowledge from seasoned coppice workers. Now she manages coppice woodlands alongside teaching and selling traditional woodland crafts.

Our class sizes are small, so you'll have a chance to engage with the tutor while you work.

Saturday 14 June, 10.30am-4pm. There will be a short break for lunch and tea/coffee is provided.

Please note:

  • The Heritage and Rural Skills Centre is located in Coleshill village. Follow signs for the Coleshill Estate Office for the car park and look out for signs directing you to the location of the course.
  • All tools and materials included. Wear practical clothes suitable for crafting. Please bring your own refreshments (or the means to purchase these from the on-site café).
  • Toilets on site, including accessible toilet. Level access into the teaching space. Some uneven surfaces such as cobbles due to the historic nature of the building. Please contact us if you require an accessible parking space or if you would like to have an informal chat about access before you book.
