A Very Merry Wives of Windsor

Ellen Terry’s Very Merry Wives of Windsor: A performance of Ellen Terry’s playlet hosted by Professor Elizabeth Schafer.

Very Merry Wives is an afternoon showcase of Ellen Terry ’s short playlet Scenes from the Merry Wives of Windsor, designed to celebrate Ellen’s beloved role of Mistress Page.  

Introduced by Elizabeth Schafer, Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies at Royal Holloway University, the performance will be followed by a Q&A with the cast.  

Scenes from the Merry Wives of Windsor was originally performed by Ellen Terry, directed by her daughter Edy Craig. It was designed as a segment of a variety show at the London Coliseum in 1917 to raise spirits during WW1.  

A celebration of Ellen Terry and Edy Craig, it is an afternoon not to be missed!

Please note:

  • Meet at the Barn Theatre entrance via the Tea Room.
  • There is wheelchair access.
  • Suitable for children aged 8+.
  • Please vote that entry into the main house is not included in this ticket price. Ticket holders are welcome to explore the grounds after the performance but must purchase entry at Visitor Reception if they would like to go inside the main house.
