Purcell and a Picnic, with Eboracum Baroque

Eboracum Baroque are delighted to return to the beautiful gardens of Canons Ashby for a programme of music featuring works by Henry Purcell, using historic musical instruments.

Eboracum Baroque are delighted to return to the beautiful gardens of Canons Ashby for a programme of music featuring works by Henry Purcell. The concert will feature works from across the 17th and 18th century including famous arias from Purcell's operas including Dido and Aeneas and King Arthur. 

There will also be instrumental music for the trumpet and recorder by other composers from the time. There will be a quick trip to a 17th century alehouse too along the way with some drinking songs and folk tunes to enjoy! All performed on period instruments from the time in what promises to be an eclectic mix of music. 
 
Relax in these picturesque surroundings with a picnic, or buy yourself something from the tea-kiosk, and bring your own picnic chairs or rugs.

The tea-kiosk will be open between 5.15pm until the end of the interval. The shop will only be open until the beginning of the concert. Please do not bring any picnic chairs or tables which may damage the garden, and please take your rubbish home with you.

This event will go ahead whatever the weather, unless it’s unsafe to do so. Please dress for the weather, whatever it brings. This event is not suitable for dogs except assistance dogs.

Pre-booking is essential, £10 children, £18 Adults

  • Park in the normal visitor car park and follow directions from visitor reception.
  • Please dress for the weather. This performance will be outdoors.
  • This area is accessible via uneven grass and gravel in the garden.
  • Families are welcome.
  • This event is outdoors so please bring something to sit on, a picnic, and dress up well for whatever the weather brings.
  • Limited space for those who cannot access 3 steps - please arrive early to ensure the best seats.
  • The end time of this concert is an estimate. It may run a little longer.
