Great Big Green Week Festival: Butterflies, bees and other pollinators

Want to know how we conduct a butterfly or pollinator survey? Meet one of our experts for some butterfly ID and then take part in a survey in the walled garden as part of Great Big Green Week.

Pollinating insects are essential to our future but their numbers are in decline in the UK. Join one of our volunteer butterfly surveyors who'll brief you on the different you're likely to see and then, weather permitting, take a walk around the walled garden to see what’s on the wing. Learn how we record the number and variety of butterflies that visit Scotney, and what you can do in your own garden to boost its bee and butterfly appeal.

Please note:

  • Standard admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
  • Meet at the Gardeners' noticeboard at Visitor Entrance 5-10 minutes before the start of the event.
  • Comfortable shoes for walking are recommended.
  • Level access in walled garden. Hard-surface paths suitable for wheelchairs and powered mobility vehicles. No WCs in garden.
  • Only assistance dogs are permitted in the walled garden.
  • Book your car parking as well as your place on the talk in order to guarantee entry. Bookings open every Thursday four weeks in advance.
