Relaxed Sessions at Knole

Knole's showrooms will be open for an extra hour and modified for a gentler sensory experience.

Relaxed sessions in the showrooms at Knole are for anyone who will benefit from experiencing Knole when it's less busy, and with others who may be more familiar with additional needs. The sessions may be especially useful and enjoyable for visitors with additional learning needs, dementia, autism, or visual impairment.

During the sessions visitor numbers are limited, and lights and sounds can be adjusted where possible. To enhance or aid the experience, sensory bags tailored to Knole as well as communication cards are available.

Brewhouse café will be open for refreshments and the gift shop also opens earlier. A designated quiet area is available for visitors to use should they require a break.

Audio-described tours are now available to book during the Relaxed Sessions at Knole. In particular these tours may appeal to visitors with visual impairment, additional learning needs or dementia. Trained guides will provide informative descriptions of rooms and spaces, including the Great Hall, Ballroom, Cartoon Gallery and Stone Court. The tour will take 45 minutes and is limited to six people per tour. Places on this need to be booked separately by contacting Knole either on 01732 462100 or by emailing knole@nationaltrust.org.uk.

Please note:

  • Please meet in Green Court.
  • The majority of the showrooms are upstairs. There is step-free access to the Great Hall. Please see our Access Statement for more details or call 01732 462100 to discuss access requirements.
