D-Day at Dunwich Heath: 80th anniversary walking tour

Join us for a special walk on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, exploring Dunwich Heath's role in Operation Overlord...

Dunwich Heath is a tranquil nature reserve on the Suffolk coast, yet the area played a pivotal role in the success of the D-Day landings. This was thanks to the little known Exercise Kruschen, a training exercise for troops participating in the Normandy invasion. Join our volunteer expert on a guided tour exploring the wartime history of the site, taking in the remaining features from the most turbulent period of Dunwich Heath's past.

Please note:

  • Normal Admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
  • Please meet outside Heath Barn, opposite the Coastguard Cottages. If it is raining the walk will be a talk in the barn instead.
  • Please dress suitably for the weather conditions on the day. Sturdy footwear is also advisable as some paths are uneven.
  • Accessible to all, but please note that this part-outdoor activity will take place on mixed terrain. An off-road mobility scooter is available to hire, but please book this in advance.
  • Older children welcome.
  • Why not treat yourself to some refreshments at the Coastguard Cottages Tearoom? Enjoy some tasty homemade cakes, light lunches and hot & cold drinks.
