‘The Gibside Men Who Marched Away’ talk with Helen MacFarlane
Join us this Armistice Day for a talk about the working men of Gibside who fought in the First World War.
In this talk, volunteer researcher Helen MacFarlane outlines her own research that she started in 2018 about 8 of the men who were working on the Gibside estate at the time of the First World War. Discover the fascinating stories of these men and find out just how far they ended up from the mines and pastures of home.
This talk will be seated and will last for approximately 1 hour. Free, normal admission applies. Booking advised as there is limited capacity.
Please be aware that the Stables is a 30 minute walk from Visitor Reception. Please arrive with enough time to arrive at the Stables before 11.30am.
Please note:
- Normal admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- The talk will take place in the Cinema Room at Gibside Stables. Please be aware that the Stables are a 30 minute walk from Visitor Reception.
- The Stables are old buildings and can be cold, even in mild weather. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather conditions.
- The Cinema Room is wheelchair accessible. The talk will be seated. Please be aware that the path up to the Stables includes a steep ascent and uneven ground. The Gibside shuttle bus may be available on the day, please ask at Visitor Reception.
- All ages welcome, although the talk is aimed at adults.
