Orangery and walled garden tours
A secret door in a wall. Where will it lead?
This behind the scenes tour will explore the history, current work and future plans for this historically productive area which is rarely open for public view.
In this volunteer-led, behind-the-scenes tour, you will discover work already undertaken to breathe life back into this once busy working area. Find out about the long and varied history of this productive area of the estate and the characters behind its construction.
Get close to conservation work on structures built to protect non-native plants, including heated walls and the partially-restored orangery. For what 21st century purpose could this area be used? Maybe you will have some ideas for us!
This area is not usually open for public view. The area is uneven with no proper paths. Please wear sturdy footwear.
Please note:
- Normal Admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Meet at the Visitor Information Shed 10 minutes before the tour starts.
- Wear sturdy shoes and dress according to weather conditions on the day.
- Unfortunately, due to the state of the walled garden, the tour is not currently suitable for mobility scooters, wheelchairs or buggies. If you have other additional requirements, please contact us via phone or email.
- Suitable for over 16’s.
- This event is not suitable for dogs.
