Fascinating Fungi Guided Walk

Join ranger mycologist Tim Rogers from the Northwest fungus group and ranger Jess for a guided fungi walk. Together you’ll explore Formby’s woodlands to search for the fascinating fungal species that grow here.

This walk is suitable for fungi enthusiasts or people who are curious about the extraordinary subject of fungi.

You’ll find out how to identify different species and the simple ways we can all help fungi thrive. As well as learning some fascinating facts and recommendations for books and literature along the way. Foraging and edibility will not be covered.

The route will take around 2.5-3 hours with regular stops to talk about what we have found.

Please note:

  • Parking is free for participants. Pick up a parking pass from National Trust staff at the meeting point to display in your windscreen.
  • Please meet at Bay 3 in Lifeboat Road car park, by the National Trust van (L37 2EB).
  • Please dress for the weather. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing is advisable. Snacks and a drink is suggested, as well as any sun cream, insect repellent or medicines you may need.
  • The walking route is uneven across largely hard surfaced paths with some undulating sandy terrain. Unfortunately the route on this occasion is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs as we’ll be venturing into the woods where there are some uneven areas.
  • Children are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Well behaved dogs are welcome to join and must be kept on a lead.
