Step into Coleridge Cottage after dark and enjoy spooky tales told by candlelight
Gothic Tales is a family-friendly event that invites you to experience Coleridge Cottage in a unique, atmospheric setting. Taking place after hours, the cottage will be illuminated by candlelight and the glow of an open fire, providing the perfect backdrop for an evening of spooky storytelling. Journey through the different rooms of the cottage, hearing four eerie tales rooted in local folklore, concluding with a reading of Coleridge’s "Christabel." Afterwards, the tearoom will be open, serving seasonal drinks and snacks.
Please note:
- Please meet at the front door of the cottage at least 20 minutes before your planned entry time. A member of staff will greet you and lead you to the Garden Room for orientation.
- Wear warm, comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear as some of the surfaces are uneven.
- There are steps into ground floor of the cottage and narrow halls and doorways inside the cottage. There is also a flight of stairs up to the first floor. Changes of levels, steep and uneven steps and confined spaces within the tour route.
- Children are encouraged to attend, this is a family-friendly event suitable for children aged 5 and over
- If you are arriving by car, there is a pay and display carpark at the Ancient Mariner pub opposite Coleridge Cottage. This carpark is not operated by the National Trust, so charges will apply to all visitors.
- Refreshments available: hot and cold drinks, bakes, cakes, crisps. Food and drink are only permitted in the tearoom.
- Tickets are non-refundable.
