Gardener Walk & Talk: Brilliant Birches with Fiona & Nick
Go on an adventure through the garden and through the ages exploring the different textures and colours of the birch tree
Here at the garden, we have over 500 birch trees, with an eclectic 28 varieties and 11 champion trees across our site. Alongside Senior Gardener Fiona and Gardener Nick, take an exploratory walk through the gardens, looking for seasonal highlights of bark colour and texture. You’ll also explore the history of Sheffield Park & Garden in relation to the planting of birch trees. This will include a global tour from our native European birches to birch trees across the USA, China, Japan, Russia, and the Himalayas. We will also explore the future of birch planting and how these ambitious plans relate to climate change and climate mapping within the garden.
Please note:
- Standard admissions charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Meet just through Visitor Reception.
- Sensible footwear and clothing is recommended as the garden can be muddy depending on the weather.
- The route will all be on our accessible pathways, so it will be suitable for anyone that wishes to join.
- Aimed at adults and older children.
- Check with the property before travelling.
