Common Threads: Artist Led Late at 575 Wandsworth Road (Black History Month)

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of textiles at 575 Wandsworth Road after dark for this very special artist led late with Battersea-based textile artist Fee Uhssi for Black History Month.

This evening tour is part of Common Threads, a year-long community arts programme drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of textiles from around the world. For Black History Month, we'll be joined by Battersea based French-Nigerian artist Fee Uhssi to share the diverse cultural narratives woven into fabrics in the collection, focussing on African textiles  such as Korhogo and Kuba cloths and celebrating the histories, techniques, ideas, and people connected with them and reflecting on how they continue to influence our lives today.

The tour lasts approximately one hour. Booking essential as due to the fragile interiors, places are limited to six people per tour.

Please note:

  • Meet outside the front of the house to be welcomed in by your guide.
  • Please bring a pair of gripped socks or slippers to help us protect the hand-painted floors upstairs.
  • Please note we are not accessible by wheelchair, and the tour involves walking up steps. We also do not have a bathroom on site, and advise visitors to make arrangements otherwise. Induction loops and audio-described tours can be offered with advance notice. Service dogs are allowed.
  • Suitable for children under 12 if accompanied by an adult.
