Behind the Shutters

Explore the secrets of Ickworth's history and collections through the state rooms and servants' quarters.

The winter months in the House are some of the busiest for the Collections team as they deep clean the rooms and carry out essential works. This tour gives you the chance to peer behind the shutters, to see some of the treasured collections, meet some of the colourful characters who shaped Ickworth and learn about how the team care for the house today.

Please note:

  • Normal Admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
  • Check in at the Welcome Point then head up to the front of the Rotunda to begin the tour.
  • The House can be cold so wear appropriate clothing. You may be asked to wear shoe coverings if your shoes are muddy. Large backpacks and push chairs can be left in West Wing foyer.
  • There is a ramp available to enter the Rotunda, a lift is also available from inside to access the basement. Manual wheelchairs available.
  • Children are welcome.
  • Sign in at the Welcome Point then head over to the front of the Rotunda to begin the tour. Please do not bring food and drink into the Rotunda.
