Green Wood Spoon Carving

5 July: learn key green woodworking skills and make a spoon to take home with you.

This course is a good introduction to green woodworking. Using a selection of hand tools, including axes and knives, you'll take a log and shape it in to a wooden spoon to take home.

This course is ideally suited to beginners.

Your tutor for this course is Rob Thorpe. Rob is a residential craftsperson at the Heritage and Rural Skills centre. He has been a green woodworker for 12 years, and also has 20 years of teaching experience, having run many green wood courses.

We keep class sizes small, to give all participants a chance to engage with the tutor and learn at their own pace.

All materials and tools required for the course will be provided. This Spoon Carving course takes place on 5 July, 10am - 4pm. There will be a break for lunch and a mess room to eat lunch in, alternatively there is an on-site café. Tea and coffee provided.

Please note:

  • Please meet at the Orton Studio at the Heritage and Rural Skills Centre in Coleshill village. Follow signs for the car park, then look for additional signage to the Orton Studio.
  • All tools and materials provided. Please wear practical clothes suitable for crafting. Please bring your own refreshments (or the means to purchase these from the on-site café).
  • Toilets on site, including accessible toilet. Level access into the teaching space. Some uneven surfaces such as cobbles due to the historic nature of the building. Please contact us if you require an accessible parking space or if you would like to have an informal chat about access before you book.
