Free Guided Walk: D-Day & Headley Heath
Learn how Headley Heath was crucial to the Canadian military in the run-up to the D-Day landings in 1944.
Join local expert Peter Denyer on this free guided walk to learn how Headley Heath was changed forever in a few short months. Trenches, tank tracks, fox holes and roads can still be seen. Now a peaceful wildlife haven, the heath boasts an array of acid and chalk grassland species, many of which thrive in the specialist habitats created as a result of the military occupation of the site.
Please note if using the car park, the usual charges will apply. NT members park for free.
Please note:
- Park at Headley Heath main car park. Meet on the green next to the donation cairn.
- Dress for the weather. Stout boots are recommended as the walk will be over rough, uneven ground which may be wet.
- Don't forget camera and binoculars.
- The paths can be narrow and muddy with a layer of stones and tree roots.
- Not suitable for children.
