Alport Castles from Fairholmes
A challenging circular guided walk exploring the incredible rock formations at Alport Castles with stunning views of the Alport and Upper Derwent Valleys.
Discover the incredible rock formations of Alport Castles on this challenging circular walk. The first section of the walk is a steep wooded ascent onto Rowlee Pasture, before following a flagged moorland path to Alport Castles with impressive views of the Alport Valley below. The route descends into the valley below and follows the River Alport Southward until it joins the River Ashop, before snaking back to Fairholmes via Bellhag Wood and Hagg Side.
Please note:
- Please meet at the Upper Derwent Visitor Centre at Fairholmes Car Park.
- Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.
- This 8-mile walk is challenging, includes a steep ascent, and follows an uneven footpath.
- Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles.
- Due to the moderate difficulty only adult tickets are available.
- Please arrive by 09:50 to leave promptly at 10:00. The walk may be cancelled in the unlikely event of extreme weather.
