Due to popular demand, we've added even more dates for you to lend a hand. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get behind the scenes and be part of something special.

Join us as we plant over 6,500 native plants in the final stage of our Sandilands landscape restoration. Together, we’ll create vital habitats for wildlife, planting beautiful native scrub and hedgerows like hawthorn and sea buckthorn.

Whether you can stay all day or just drop in for a short session, we’d love to have you with us.

This is a free event, but booking is essential, so sign up and let’s make a difference together.

Please note:

  • Meet us near the carpark at the northern tip of the nature reserve (What3Words///seagulls.hiking.blur).
  • Dress for the weather in comfy clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Wellies or sturdy footwear are best. We’ll provide PPE and spades.
  • Bring snacks, water, and lunch if you’re staying all day.
  • Be prepared for steps, steep slopes, and uneven terrain. It may be muddy in places after wet weather, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
  • Children are welcome with an adult, but sorry, no dogs on this occasion.
  • We’re planting native shrubs like hawthorn, sea buckthorn, blackthorn, and wild rose to create rich scrub habitat for birds and wildlife. These thickets will provide nectar in spring, berries in autumn, and nesting spots for species like blackbirds, linnets, and whitethroats. Taller scrub will also shelter migrating birds such as yellow-browed warblers and redstarts.
  • Along the roadside, we’re planting a diverse hedge, including wild privet and field maple. Rather than a neatly trimmed hedge, it will grow naturally as a scrubby wildlife haven, offering year-round food and shelter.
