Fossil Forage at Robin Hoods Bay

Join our staff for a stroll on the beach looking for fossils and other treasures.

We will start in our exhibition upstairs at the Old Coastguard Station to hear about how fossils were formed, find out about the different folk names the fossils have and what exactly a Devil’s Toenail really is. Then head out for a short, guided stroll on the beach to find some for yourself.

Please note:

  • Meet upstairs in the Old Coastguard Station, The Dock, Robin Hoods Bay.
  • Sturdy footwear & appropriate outdoor clothing. A Bag to put any finds into. No fossil hammers required or permitted.
  • The beach is accessed via a steep downhill walk through the village then a cobbled ramp or steps. Uneven surfaces on the beach.
  • Suitable for Children age 6+
  • Due to the limited size of the exhibition room at the Old Coastguard Station we kindly ask that only 2 adults accompany each family group during the introductory talk. Other members of the family are more than welcome to join us for the beach session.
  • No parking or car access in the lower village.
