Stories in Bloom
Join us for a writing workshop that uses a guided walk through Manchester’s best blossom sites as inspiration with Oak & Pen.
Join us on a guided walk through Manchester’s bloomtown, where we’ll be using writing prompts inspired by the blossoms and their history to create a piece of writing that’s personal to you.
On this step free route around Castlefield we will journey down cherry blossom lined avenues, which folklore believes to represent rebirth and ancestry. We will explore how blossoms such as apple and foxglove can celebrate both identity and Manchester's long road to being the city it is today. Finally, we'll see how blossoms can enshrine, and help us reflect on, the past.
At the end of the route we will collate all our ideas at Castlefield Viaduct to produce a story that you can be proud of.
We welcome writers of all experience levels, whether this is your first time picking up the pen or you’re an old pro looking to reinvigorate your practice.
Please let us know of any access requirements and bear in mind that lunch is not included, but please feel free to bring food and drink to enjoy along the way.
Our workshops do have a back up plan should we encounter bad weather.
Please note:
- Please meet at the entrance to Castlefield Viaduct.
- Please bring a notebook and pen, shoes that you're comfortable walking in and warm weather-appropriate clothing.
- The route will be entirely step-free but will be three hours outdoors on a guided route. The toilets at Castlefield Viaduct are accessible. There are no parking facilities.
- The workshop is for over 18's only.
