Voices of the Fen : Make a Clay Ocarina

Join Kathy Hinde and Jan Hendrickse as they show you how to make your very own ocarina to take home and play.

In this workshop you will each make an Ocarina out of clay. An Ocarina is a small flute-like instrument, thought to have been in use for as long as 12,000 years. It is popular in many cultures, and ranges in size and style. This workshop will guide you towards making a small ocarina that could be used to imitate local birdsong.

No previous experience is required for this workshop. Under 18’s must attend with an adult, please ensure that everyone who would like to make a instrument orders a ticket.

Following the workshop your ocarina will be kept and fired for you to collect and take home after
approximately 4 weeks. You will be notified when it is ready.

Kiln firing clay involves inherent risks and there is a slim chance of your work cracking or breaking. Your work will be fired with the utmost of care and attention, but it is important to acknowledge this risk.

This event is supported by funding from Arts Council England.
