Join us for an eye-opening journey into the hidden history of St. Boniface Down!

Uncover the fascinating military history of St. Boniface Down on this captivating walk through time. From the early installation of radar pylons before WWII and the German bombing that knocked them offline during the Battle of Britain, to the Cold War-era ROTOR bunker - dug by 120 Irish navvies and later repurposed by the council as a wartime HQ - this site has a remarkable past. Hear about the top-secret radar operations, aircraft disasters, and even an unexplained UFO sighting recorded at 920mph. This walk forms part of National Trust, Isle of Wight’s Cold War Heritage Week programme.

• Good walking footwear recommended. No facilities en route – please bring water and snacks
• Rest stops along the route. Stunning coastal and downland views.
• This walk explores some of the most secretive and intriguing elements of the Island’s wartime and Cold War past. Please note that some sections may be steep and exposed to the elements. Not suitable for those with mobility impairments.
• Walks would best suit adults and families with older children.
• Length of walk: 3 miles (approx. 2 hours)
