Grasslands butterfly workshops
Be part of creating a kaleidoscope of butterflies for our brand new summer art installation. Inspired by THE HERDS project, and our nature conservation work.
Join a workshop with local artist Jo Veal to be part of creating a kaleidoscope of butterflies, which will be enjoyed by our visitors throughout the summer. The workshop is recommended for age 7+.
You will learn how to craft a beautiful butterfly using willow and a range of decorative techniques. Please note, the workshops are designed for our community to work together and create an art installation in different stages so you won't make a complete butterfly in your session. You will not be able to take your butterfly home but you will be able to visit your work displayed in the gardens this summer and be part of a large scale art display!
This workshop is suitable for everyone aged 7+, so if you enjoy being creative this workshop is for you.
Tickets are £3 each for every adult and child entering the Blackbourn room, plus normal admission prices. All ticket holders will be encouraged to participate. Children must be supervised by at least one adult per group.
Inspired by The HERDS project, a groundbreaking public art and climate initiative, and our grassland habitat restoration work, the butterflies will celebrate nature as well as sparking conversations about how to care for it.
These workshops will be delivered in partnership with Barnsley Museums and have been kindly supported by Art Fund.
Please note:
- Standard admissions charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Tickets are £3 each for everyone aged 7+ entering the room.
- Meet at the Blackbourn Room in the Conservatory. The distance from the Visitor Reception and car park to the Conservatory is around 800m up a hill, so please allow time for this.
- Dress for messy creative activities.
- A buggy is available at the Visitor Reception building to support those who need extra help. Accessible toilets are available. Please visit the access page of our website for further information.
- Suitable for ages 7+.
- We are sorry but this workshop is not suitable for those visiting with dogs.
