Introduction to Natural Dyeing Workshop
Have a go at some heritage crafts with this half-day natural dye workshop. A hands-on experience perfect for beginners and craft enthusiasts alike.
Try something new and have a go at natural dyeing in this half a day workshop using both wool yarn and cotton fabric.
What to expect during your workshop:
- Make and use a natural dye bath using a dye plant from the Hardwick Hall gardens.
- Be introduced to the uses of mordents and modifiers and see how these can change the outcome of your dyeing.
- Be shown some different shibori tying techniques and dye your experiments using an existing natural woad vat.
- Hot drink included from the restaurant (hot chocolate, tea, or filter coffee).
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to take home 4 x 10g of your dyed yarn, perfect for a few granny squares or to make some handmade coasters, along with your tie-die experiments.

Please note:
- Standard admissions charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Please meet at The East Stables is in the Stableyard next to the Second Hand Bookshop.
- Please wrap up warm as it can get very cold in the East Stables area.
- There are accessible toilets, a changing place, tramper/wheelchair for hire (free to use, donations are welcome) and parking at the Stableyard. This workshop take place on the ground floor.
- Suitable for children aged 14 or over.
