Barrows to Bunkers - a free guided walk through 4000 years of Hive Beach's history

Take a FREE guided walk around Hive Beach with our National Trust archaeologists and learn about key historical events of the area.

The walk is just 1.5km but expect to take around 60-90 minutes.  There is an initial uphill climb as we walk to the top of Bind Barrow but otherwise this is a simple walk.

Our National Trust archaeology volunteers will show you important landmarks linked to WW2 but will also discuss Bind Barrow and other significant points of interest which can be seen from this key viewing point.

We hope to cover around 4000 years of history at Hive Beach in just under 90 minutes !

Please note:

  • Meet at the National Trust Hive Beach Hut near the car park entrance
  • Wear weather appropriate clothing and shoes with a good grip. There is a downhill section when good soled shoes would be of benefit.
  • You may also need a bottle of water.
  • The walk is quite short, just 1.5km but there are some hills (up to the top of bind barrow) and one fairly steep downhill section.
  • Children are welcome but it is up to the adult supervising to ensure they can manage the walk (there are some hills). Children must never be left alone and need to be supervised at all times. This is not suitable for prams or pushchairs.
  • This is a free event but booking is essential.
