Great Big Green Week - Tree ID and Woodland Workshop

Join a National Trust Ranger and discover more about some of the oldest and most fascinating trees here in the grounds of Gawthorpe Hall.

On Saturday 14 June, join National Trust Ranger David Bevis for a morning walk through Gawthorpe’s woodland and learn all about the trees that reside here and how to identify them.

In the afternoon enjoy some time in the Walled Garden with plenty of self-led activities.

*Please remember to book your free ticket for the Tree ID and Woodland Workshop, so we can accommodate the numbers. A ticket is not required for the Walled Garden activities.*

The event timings will be as follows...

Tree ID and Woodland Workshop (10-12 noon) - The first hour will involve an ID workshop where you will learn how to identify the different tree species.  The second hour will put this into practice, with a gentle walk around the estate looking at the variety of different species found here at Gawthorpe Hall.

Walled Garden self-led activities (12-3pm) - Grab yourself a nature trail sheet and go in search of the different wildlife hidden around the Walled Garden. There's also magnifying bug pots, sweep nets, ID guides and magnifying glasses, so all that's left is for you to head off, capture and learn about the world of insects.

Please note:

  • Meet in the car park at Gawthorpe Hall for the Tree ID and Woodland Workshop.
Meet in the Walled Garden for the afternoon activities.
  • Sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothing.
  • The majority of the walk will follow the main paths, however the route in some areas is uneven therefore is not pushchair or wheelchair friendly.
