Elgar's Piano Concerto with David Owen Norris

Join us for this special event with pianist, composer and broadcaster David Owen Norris, listen to a complete performance of the piano concerto in a version for solo piano, which includes slides of Elgar’s manuscript sketches.

David Owen Norris has recorded all Sir Edward Elgar’s piano compositions. He worked with the late Anthony Payne on his completions of Elgar’s Third Symphony and Sixth Pomp & Circumstance March, and now, after taking Elgar’s recorded piano improvisations of 1929 around the world for thirty-five years, playing them by ear, he has at last combined manuscript sketches and the inspirations of the composer’s own fingers to complete the Piano Concerto Elgar worked on for the last 15 years of his life.

This one-hour presentation, which includes slides of Elgar’s manuscript sketches and a complete performance of the concerto in a version for solo piano, has been acclaimed by experts and music-lovers of every kind.

Listening to the Piano Concerto, one listener felt ‘the extraordinary and even breath-taking sense, as in the 3rd Symphony, of Elgar reaching out towards something quite new, his remarkable musical mind extending, as in Whitman’s phrase, toward the unknown region’.

There are only 60 tickets available at each event, this intimate concert will not be one to miss.
