Ian's new book - The Rocks at the Edge of the Empire - explores how the rocks of the Roman frontier in Northern England shaped its history.
Meet Ian for a book signing then join him in a walk to Housesteads Fort where he will share stories of how the use of the natural resources of Wall country and its hinterland extended from the practical to the aesthetic and spiritual.
The event on 3rd July is aimed at adults and the event on 10th August is aimed at families.
Please note:
- Standard admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Meet at Housesteads Visitor Centre. Car park is owned by Northumberland National Park and charges apply. First 15 minutes - free. Up to three hours - £5.00.
- Please bring evidence of your booking and dress for the weather with sturdy, comfortable footwear.
- Housesteads Fort is a half-mile uphill walk from the Visitor Centre with uneven ground in places.
- Toilets are available at the Visitor Centre. Conditions underfoot vary, including paths and grassed areas, some could be wet and slippy, please come prepared. Terrain also varies from flat to inclines.
- Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome on the walk and in the Visitor Centre café.
