Summer family: Free family summer science sessions

Come and learn some scientific techniques to identify plants species growing at Longshaw. Perfect for families with children age 10+.

Join our friendly team as you learn the basics of identifying plants and getting to know the moorland environment at Longshaw. This short guided walk will teach you basic plant survey techniques, how to identify plants, and how to use survey equipment. This session is perfect for young people age 10-16 with an interest in ecology and environmental science at Key Stage 3 and GCSE Science level.

Young people must be accompanied by an adult. The group size on each walk is limited to 12 places. Please book a place for each attendee, for example if one adult and one child are attending please book 2 places.

Please note:

  • Meet at the Moorland Discovery Centre, adjacent to Woodcroft car park.
  • Please dress for the weather, with sturdy outdoor footwear.
  • The session includes a walk across moderately challenging terrain and inclines.
  • Designed for children aged 10+
