Festival of Archaeology: Excavation Drop-in sessions

Want to have a go on an archaeological excavation at a circular stone enclosure site close to Divis Lodge, or just visit our dig site to see what's being uncovered.

The CBA Festival of Archaeology 2025 launches on Saturday 19th at Divis and our excavation will be running Wed-Sat each week through to Saturday 9th August. We are continuing our search at this enclosure site looking for remains of prehistoric settlement of those who lived and farmed here around 5,000 years ago.

Our excavation is staffed by our National Trust Archaeologist, assisted by volunteers from the Ulster Archaeology Society and members of the public are free to take part in the dig on a booking basis.

Please note:

  • Meet at the cafe barn.
  • Wear appropriate clothing (something you don't mind getting dirty or muddy) and good boots or shoes. Weather is changeable on Divis so dress appropriately.
  • Some uneven and steep terrain around the excavation site.
  • Suitable for all ages.
