Hidden Histories Walk - Townend & Troutbeck
Become a building detective on this guided architecture tour of some of the finest traditional Lake District buildings in Troutbeck village.
On the tour you’ll take a close look at the exterior features of Townend, the unique 17th century home of the Browne family and get the rare chance to peer inside Townend barn, one of the few surviving examples of a Lakeland bank barn, on the adjacent working farm.
You’ll learn what clues to look for to ‘de-code’ other historic buildings when travelling around the Lake District.
Please note:
- Please meet in the courtyard in front of Townend. The tour starts at 11am and finishes at 12 noon. Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour starts.
- Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for a short autumnal walk.
- Designated mobility car park spaces and drop-off point. Access to Townend garden via a steep slope.
- Not suitable for children.
