West Challacombe Manor Open Day

Explore the medieval West Challacombe Manor thanks to Heritage Open Week.

A place steeped in history, medieval West Challacombe Manor is a key part of the landscape of Combe Martin, standing proud in its sheltered valley for more than half a millennium. As part of Heritage Open Week, we are excited to be able to open this special place on Thursday 11 September for a day of free guided tours.

•    Free guided tours of the manor (booking required).

•    Countryside walk and talk with Riverlands Ranger Jimmer. Taking place at 1:30pm - 3pm. Booking not needed. 

•    West Challacombe Cottage open all day for drop-in visits.

•    Lawns and orchard open to enjoy—bring a picnic if you’d like.

Getting here:
There is no parking or drop-off at the manor, but a free shuttle bus will run from Combe Martin on a first come first served bases: 

10am: pick up at Kiln Car Park 
10:15am: pick up at the Pack O’ Cards
10:30am: Arrive at West Challacombe Manor, and pick up any return passengers

11:30am: pick up at Kiln Car Park 
11:45am: pick up at the Pack O’ Cards
12pm: Arrive at West Challacombe Manor, and pick up any return passengers

1:30pm: pick up at Kiln Car Park  
1:45pm: pick up at the Pack O’ Cards
2pm: Arrive at West Challacombe Manor, and pick up any return passengers

3pm: last trip back from WC Manor to the village.

Please note:

  • For the house tours, please meet on the lawn  (what3words: ///metro.scrolled.typist),
  • For the Ranger walk and talk, please meet in the car park, by the garden(what3words: ///highly.horizons.acclaimed).
  • Please dress for the weather and wear suitable waterproof walking shoes if joining the rangers walks.
  • Ranger walk is across uneven ground/grassland, along a relatively level route with only gentle slopes. Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access due to the house tours involving historic staircases and some narrow passageways.
  • Children are welcome.
