Winter Wildlife Walk
Join our ranger for a guided walk around Heigham Holmes.
Join us on a special guided walk as we cross the swing bridge on to the ‘island’ of Heigham Holmes, a peaceful haven for wildlife which is only open to the public on a selected number of days each year. The reserve is home to wetland birds and an abundance of other wildlife. Its mix of reed fringed flood banks, open water, grazing marshes and wet woodland are all linked by a maze of dykes and pools, which are characteristic of The Broads landscape. Species found here include marsh harriers, common cranes, barn owls, avocets, deer (red, muntjac, and Chinese water deer), swallowtail butterflies, otters, and adders.

Please note:
- Please meet at the fisheries down Ferrygate Lane, near Ferrygate Camping. What3Words: ///hiker.binds.strict. Our ranger will then direct you to parking spaces.
- Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring binoculars, if you have them.
- There is a mixture of uneven terrain. It could be wet and muddy in places. Not suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
- Accompanied children welcome.
- No dogs except assistance dogs by prior arrangement.
