Linocut winter greeting card design workshop with Rachel Moore

Explore creative carving and experience printing with a 19th-century press at this winter-themed linocut workshop.

Your day begins in the Hayloft, where your tutor, Rachel, will introduce you to the linocut process. This is followed by a self-guided tour around Knole’s showrooms and grounds, gathering ideas and motifs to use as the basis for your prints.

Back in the Hayloft, Rachel will guide you through basic design principles helping you turn your sketches and photos into a final composition. Whether you create your own design or opt for one of our pre-made templates, you’ll learn transfer techniques, image reversal and get hands-on carving your tile using specialist tools.

After lunch, it’s time to print and see your art come to life as you ink up your linocut and print a series of greetings cards using a cast-iron 19th-century press.

Once cleaned and dried, your linocut tile can be taken home and used to print again and again.

No previous printmaking experience needed. Drinks and biscuits included.
