Wintertide Workshop | Blackwork Embroidery
Try your hand at historic embroidery and see its use in the Hardwicks collection whilst the hall is dressed for Wintertide.
Connect with craft enthusiasts throughout history to create embroideries using a historic technique that can be seen in Hardwick’s 16th century textile collection.
The workshop will start by looking at the blackwork in the embroidery corridor with an introduction to blackwork history and will be followed by the workshop where participants can choose from the patterns provided. Some of the thread available has been dyed using the natural dye plants grown in the Hardwick Herb Garden.
This session will last 1.5 hours and fabric, patterns and thread will all be provided, this workshop is perfect for beginners to blackwork embriodery.
Anyone under the age of 16 must by accompanied by and adult.
Please note:
- Standard admissions charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Both the House & Garden's ticket or the Wider Estate ticket are accepted as standard admission for this event. Please note entry to the house after the workshop has finished is only applicable with a House & Gardens ticket.
- Please meet at Visitor Reception at 9:45 to be taken up to hall.
- Please wrap up warm as it can get cold in the hall.
- This event takes place in the hall with a small talk in the embroidery corridor on the top floor of the hall. There are no lift facilities in the hall. Accessible parking is towards the front of the car park with a buggy service available from Visitor Reception. There are toilets are in the hall with accessible toilets in the Stableyard.
