Queer Botanical Drawing Workshop, Sat 7 Feb, 1-4pm
Explore nature and queerness through botanical drawing with artist Edward Luke Thrush for LGBTQ+ History Month. Suitable for all abilities.
Join us for a Queer Botanical Drawing Workshop led by Edward Luke Thrush (he/him). Celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month by exploring the intersection of queerness and nature through art, unlocking your creativity in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Discover botanical drawing techniques inspired by the park’s plants, including the Westfelton Yew and Ginkgo, and create your own artwork with guidance from a professional queer artist. All materials will be provided, along with a booklet of tips and inspiration to take home. The session will also include a walk around the rose garden to spark your inspiration.

We are offering limited £25 concession tickets for those on Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Disability Benefit, Income Support or Job Seekers allowance.
Tutor Bio:
This session will be hosted by Edward Luke Thrush (he/him), a designer, illustrator and artist based between Birmingham and London, UK. For his personal work Edward incorporates botanical imagery in his drawings, prints and paintings, using knotted brambles and flora interlaced with litter and other elements of human interaction. His work aims to explore the boundaries of urban and natural spaces whilst evoking issues of discovery, trespass and belonging through the queer perspective.

- Meet in the Stableyard Exhibition Space.
- All of the materials for the workshop will be provided, but you are also free to bring your preferred tools. Part of the session will involve an outdoor walk so please dress for the weather.
- The workshop is held in the park’s exhibition space, which is wheelchair accessible with toilet facilities nearby. Please contact us in advance if you have specific access requirements. Disabled parking is available in the main car park.
- Suitable for 13+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
